Self-Acceptance vs The “development” push
“No amount of self-improvement can make up for any lack of self-acceptance”
There seems to be two voices competing within self-help. Understanding what they are, where they differ, and most importantly where they align can help us navigate the seemingly opposed voices.
One is of compassion, and the other is the drill Sargent. I think both are trying to help us coarch ourselves. (Curious if they’re just different common trauma responses) Seemingly masculine and feminine approach to growth but where would that really matter?
The drill sargent wants to whip us into shape, he knows we can do more and through discipline we can become tougher, more resilient and more effective humans with a robust esteem. This is setting standards and training yourself into them.
